An imposter. A mafia heir. A dragon race that could kill them both. The perfect mashup of Six of Crows and How to Train Your Dragon.

Dragons are only supposed to choose the godborn…

I was raised in the city’s bottomside, where girls like me learn to keep their heads down, their knives close, and their dreams small. But when a dangerous, illegal dragon chooses me, its bond proves that the godborn have been lying.

Now I’m offered a place at the country’s most prestigious dragon-riding academy, but it comes with a catch. Rewrite my identity and pretend I’m one of them.

Saying no means losing my dragon.

Saying yes means becoming someone else.

New name. New history. New lies.

And one impossible bargain: Spy on Rushland Covington, the golden heir of the city’s most ruthless crime family, or lose the only chance my family has to escape the slums for good.

But Covington has secrets of his own.

He’s chasing a forbidden mystery about dragons, and somehow, I’m the key to solving it. Bound by blackmail and a reluctant alliance, we’re dragged into late-night meetings, clandestine experiments, and a conspiracy buried beneath the academy’s glittering surface.

What we uncover isn’t just corruption. It’s a lie powerful enough to reshape everything the world believes about dragons.

And powerful men will kill to keep it buried.

But the riskiest part of it all is the fire growing between us.
